![]() ![]() It was so much fun to read this one! I loved seeing what things could’ve been like had Ursula initially won. It becomes Ariel’s mission to find and rescue her father and return him to his throne under the sea, but she’s going to need some help in order to accomplish this and naturally, that help comes in many familiar faces. And it basically leads to Ariel returning to land once again in order to find her father who Scuttle discovered was still alive…in his polyp form. Then one day Scuttle and his great-granddaughter were watching a play that Eric wrote, one that had a very familiar story with a somewhat different ending. Ariel was a voiceless mermaid trying to rule Atlantica while Ursula continued to be Vanessa with Ariel’s voice and Eric was kept in a hypnotized daze. The book opens up five years after Ursula had won. ![]() What’s so fun with these stories is how much could’ve changed with one little moment, though it wasn’t entirely clear why things didn’t play out like in the movie, I figure it was best not to think too hard on that because the point of this series is to give new endings! In Part of Your World, we learn how things would’ve been had Ursula won and Ariel lost everything. Liz Braswell has done it again! She’s taken a favorite Disney movie of mine and gave it a nice good twist to see what could’ve happened had things gone wrong in The Little Mermaid. there was a lot of “hype” around the play that we all knew would be the grand finale when I had to re-read Ursulas defeat a few times because it happened so quickly.Overall I would say 7.5 out of 10. The story does explain the reason she keeps him around, explains her hatred of Ariel and explains the reasoning for being kind to Eric.I do enjoy the change of scenery with the water elements and Ariel now being In charge of the Atlantic but the ending could have been better. There were some moments I found myself smiling more than not- it wasn’t until the last 40 pages or so I felt let down. Jar…? Weird.I feel the actions of “Veronica”/ Ursula don’t really speak to her true character and I felt she would’ve been one step ahead 5 years ago and not keep the king around. She likes power and to feel In charge but she just lets Ariel live in the sea and keeps the king locked up in a…. She isn’t necessarily evil as much as she is just a terrible queen. The story takes place 5 years after the first film with the outcome being that Ursula has won the prince and has charmed him under her spell. It’s difficult to believe Ursulas human decisions would be similar to the sea witches. I was saving it towards the last because I only had a few books left to read and from the reviews it looked super promising.Spoilers!!!This book is long compared to the others so I was expecting a lot of adventure similar to “Unbirthday” or “Straight on till morning”.I feel this book lacked a high flying (or swimming) adventure but was more a slower pace of adventure. This was the 6th box I’ve read into the series. Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2021
